I have recently been involved in a project created to promote the principles behind the ideal of public domain art. The project involves researching art and images in the public domain and using those images to inspire new creative contemporary art and illustration. The premise of "public domain" was to keep creative works circulating far beyond their demise so they would have a influence on and benefit from the vision of creative talents to come. This keeps old art new and founding ideas an important part of our creative heritage and future. The public domain is currently under threat by special interest groups who wish creative controls to be held by corporate profiteers who have no interest in preserving our countries creative heritage as an infinite resource for artist in future generations.
