World Record Black Crappie

24x40 Acrylic on Canvas by A.J. Wood

(BONUS DETAILS and Close-Up Images)

John Horstman's 5.02 lb Missouri black crappie stands as the current IGFA all tackle world record. I did this painting for John's son who was with him on the day of the catch. This is one of the most beautiful portraits I have ever seen in real life. It traveled with me to shows across the country. People would stop dead in their tracks confounded at the size of such a rare fish. I did the crappie to scale so it would be accurate to the actual catch. It was a true privilege to create this special trophy portrait.
