We use a combination of traditional fine art and modern illustration techniques to create the ultimate acrylic portrait. Your portrait begins life as an accurate underpainting that serves as the foundation for the final acrylic work. Like the underpaintings of Titian, Rembrandt and Vemeer, this pre-version of the final painting sets the composition, creates volume, and gives substance to the subject matter. Dark and light tones are mapped out to create the effects of depth and illumination in your portrait. Traditionally this process is worked out directly on the canvas. We do this stage off the canvas giving us freedom to experiment using less expensive or virtual materials. Various methods are used to create the initial underpainting. We use dry brush speed painting techniques in oils as employed by master Russian portrait artists, modern digital speed painting methods employed by top Hollywood concept artists and graphite or charcoal drawings on plain paper. Once the underpainting is complete it is mechanically transferred to the artists canvas for final color application and rendering of details using the finest pigments and paints. We often create different elements of the painting as separate pieces combining them during the transfer to the final canvas. The flexibility of our process allows for unequaled speed of creation. This is the factor that allows us to do these incredible paintings at such affordable prices. These are stunning works of art that far exceed the original photo reference.
